Visitors to Ediz Hook in Port Angeles Harbor were treated to this adult male orca that passed by the spit Saturday evening.
One of those visitors, Chuck Rondeau, sent us this photo and notes that numerous people were able to follow the orca on the outside edge of the Hook for a fairly long distance.
It “remained just yards off the shoreline headed west after a number of circles in one area, exposing a large dorsal fin each time he surfaced for air. As the sun fell toward the horizon, the [orca] gradually moved further offshore.”
Although known as “killer whales,” orcas are actually large dolphins that feed on fish and sometimes seals and other mammals.
