CHIMACUM — A Port Townsend man was injured in a one-vehicle wreck about 2 miles south of Chimacum at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
William C. Ellis, 70, was flown with internal bleeding to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after his 1998 Dodge Ram crashed into a pole and down an embankment, the Washington State Patrol said.
Ellis was listed in serious condition at Harborview on Sunday night.
No one else was in the vehicle and no other vehicle was involved, the State Patrol said.
The State Patrol gave this account:
Ellis was driving north on state Highway 19 near milepost 8 when he tried to pull off of the road because of an unspecified medical problem.
Ellis crossed both lanes of the highway, struck a pole, then veered off again and crossed the roadway to the left and stopped 20 feet down an embankment.
The cause of the wreck was listed as inattention and any potential charges or citations were still pending on Sunday, the State Patrol said.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were contributing factors to the wreck, the State Patrol said.
Ellis was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
The Dodge Ram was a total loss, the State Patrol said.
