OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The man who apparently committed suicide in the Royal Basin area earlier this month sent a letter to his fiancee saying he was dying and asking her to take care of his children.
Rose Cook, 36, of Port Angeles said the body found by two hikers on Oct. 11 is that of her fiance, 42-year-old David Rasmussen, also the father of the couple’s 6-month-old son.
Rasmussen left on Oct. 9 with some clothes and a backpack headed to a cabin he had in the Royal Basin, Cook said.
Cook received two letters from Rasmussen, with his driver’s license inside one of the letters, before reporting the apparent suicide to Olympic National Park on Oct. 11.
