FORKS — Two hikers missing since Wednesday in Olympic National Park were found Sunday afternoon in good condition, a park spokeswoman said.
After spending six nights in the park’s Bogachiel Valley wilderness, Jon Pontrello, 17, and Jonathan Parks, 20, both of Everett, were spotted by a helicopter search crew at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The two were found outside a shelter about 17 miles from the trailhead.
Parks and Pontrello are described as being in good health, but with limited hiking and backcountry skills.
Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said one of the hikers may be suffering from hypothermia, but she did not know which.
Park rangers were on the scene around 4 p.m. and reported that both appear to be in good condition, although they were “still being assessed,” she said.
They will not be flying out tonight,” Maynes said Sunday evening of the impending helicopter rescue.
Instead they were given more food and stove fuel to warm up.
