OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The Griff fire swelled another 100 acres on Friday, then held to its western perimeter Saturday — marking the first time the 580-acre blaze hasn’t grown since it began growing a week ago.
With very little wind on Saturday, two helicopters dropped more than 45,000 gallons of water on the fire and a ground crew continued to operate a sprinkler system on Little River Trail, keeping the blaze stationary.
“We’re pleased with how things are working,” park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Saturday evening.
The weather appears to be changing and one park employee reported light rain at Hurricane Ridge, she said.
