Olympic National Park announces fee-free dates; fee increases also come into effect in 2017

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Olympic National Park will offer free admission on nine days in 2017, with the first Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Other days are Feb. 20, Presidents Day; April 15-16 and 22-23, weekends of National Park Week; Aug. 25, National Park Service anniversary; Sept. 30, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11-12, Veterans Day weekend.

“We are extremely grateful for the revenue from visitor fees that allows us to complete many important projects throughout the park,” Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum said.

“Extending these nine fee-free days is one way we can say thank you to the many visitors and neighbors of Olympic National Park.”

Olympic National Park’s regular entrance fee is $25 per car. On fee-free days, other park fees, including wilderness camping and campground fees, will remain in effect. The Olympic National Park annual pass costs $50.

Several Olympic National Park fees will increase in the coming year, part of a three-year phased increase that began in 2015.

Effective Jan. 10, overnight wilderness use permits will increase in price. The nightly fee will increase from $5 to $8, and the annual wilderness pass will increase from $35 to $45.

On June 1, the seven-day motorcycle entrance fee will increase from $15 to $20.

Entrance fees apply only to people 16 and older; youths and children 15 and younger enter the park for free. Information about senior, access and military passes that provide free entry are available at www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/fees.htm.
