PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center Commissioner Jim Cammack has resigned from his seat, citing personal and health reasons, after 15 years of service.

The resignation will be effective Dec. 31, but Cammack said he did not plan to attend board meetings in December to allow the board to move forward in appointing his replacement.

“It has been a pleasure to work with all the board members,” he said in a news release.

Commissioners are now seeking applicants for the District 3 seat. The deadline for completed applications is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 5.

Commissioners plan to conduct interviews of qualified applicants on Jan. 17 and appoint a new commissioner shortly after.

Originally appointed to the board to replace Connie Lawrence in 2003, Cammack has been a part of many changes, from the affiliation with Swedish to the purchase of Epic electronic health records.

He served as board president in 2008 and 2011, and as board secretary in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He participated on many committees over the years, including the board audit, budget and compliance committee, quality management oversight committee, and the Olympic Medical Home Health advisory board.

“Jim actively sought to contribute to the success of Olympic Medical Center and ensure the community had access to health care services it needs and deserves,” said Eric Lewis, chief executive officer of Olympic Medical Center.

Said Jim Leskinovitch, 2017 commission president: “Jim has done a great service to the community during his tenure on the board and we wish him the best.”

Cammack was co-owner of Jim’s Pharmacy with his wife, Barb, before they passed ownership to their son, Joe.

Applicants for the open seat must live in District 3, which covers an area west of Lincoln Street in Port Angeles to the west side of Lake Crescent.

The successful applicant will be appointed until the general election in November 2019, when the appointee would run for the remainder of the unfulfilled six-year term that ends in December 2021.

Time requirements include two monthly board meetings, at 12:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month and at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month, as well as additional committee work as assigned.

Commissioners govern Olympic Medical Center and all its inpatient and outpatient services, as well as major divisions including Olympic Medical Physicians and Olympic Medical Home Health.

Voter precincts for District 3 include Port Angeles 104, 105, 106.01, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113; Beaver 204.03; Black Diamond 208.01, 208.02, and 208.03; Dry Creek 224; Elwha 230.01 and 230.02; Freshwater Bay 233.01, 233.02 and 233.03; Joyce 241.01 and 241.02; Madison Creek 248.01 and 248.02; and Mount Angeles 250.01 and 250.02.
