Olympic Climate Action sets events for ‘Climate Strike Week’

Activities spread across North Olympic Peninsula

Olympic Climate Action is joining the international, youth-driven “Climate Strike Week” with events scheduled to start Friday across the North Olympic Peninsula.

To raise awareness of what they call an escalating climate crisis, event organizers are planning strikes, demonstrations, art, music, ceremonies and film screenings.

Events on the North Olympic Peninsula include:

• 10 a.m. Friday: Port Townsend High School students join the global strike by gathering in the baseball field at Fir and F streets for a rally with student speakers.

• 5 p.m. Friday: Olympic Climate Action (OCA) will host a rally with speakers, march and art build, beginning at Hollywood Beach and ending at the Gateway Center in Port Angeles.

• 7 p.m. Saturday: OCA hosts a free screening of the award-winning documentary “The Reluctant Radical” at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., followed by a discussion with Michael Foster of the Valve Turners.

The documentary chronicles the journey of Ken Ward, one of five activists who shut down tar sands pipelines in 2016.

• All day Saturday: International Coastal Cleanup at multiple locations.

Sponsored by OceanConservancy.org.

• 4 p.m. Sunday: “Earthcare Celebration” with the Interfaith Community of Clallam County. People of all faiths are invited to gather for ceremony and prayer in the meadow at Webster’s Woods, Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

• All day, Monday: “Call Jaime Dimon Day” — residents from across the North Olympic Peninsula are urged to call Dimon, CEO of Chase Bank, to protest the bank’s alleged funding of fossil-fuel projects.

• 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24: An OCA-organized demonstration in Sequim at Sequim Avenue and Washington Street.
