DISCOVERY BAY — An Olympia man was arrested last week after his truck rolled down an embankment in Discovery Bay while he was trying to escape from State Patrol officers.
John D. Rufus, 47, was taken into custody after the wreck Thursday night and refused treatment for minor injuries, the State Patrol said.
He was arrested for investigation of felony eluding, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
He remained in the Jefferson County jail Friday, with bond set at $50,000.
State Trooper John Fields attempted to stop Rufus at about 7:30 p.m. after clocking the Dodge Ram he was driving at 85 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 101, said Trooper Russ Winger, spokesman for the State Patrol.
Rufus fled southbound and lost control a few minutes later at Milepost 282 about 10 miles south of Port Townsend, where the road curved to the right, Winger said.
The truck rolled down an embankment and came to rest on its wheels, Winger said.
Rufus was wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said, also adding that the truck was reportedly damaged and impounded.
