BEAVER — A Port Angeles woman was held at gunpoint by a state corrections officer who found her hiding behind a pickup truck in his driveway before she was arrested for investigation of attempted vehicle theft, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.
Joanna Boston, 36, was booked into the Clallam County jail Tuesday for investigation of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft, said Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron in a Sheriff’s Office report.
She was not listed on the jail roster as of Wednesday afternoon.
A woman in the residence in the 600 block of Wahlgren Road east of Beaver called 9-1-1 emergency dispatch at 5 a.m. to say that her husband was holding a prowler at gunpoint, Cameron said.
Deputies were assisted by a State Patrol trooper when they detained Boston, Cameron said.
The resident, a state Department of Corrections officer who was unidentified, told deputies he was preparing to depart for work when he discovered that someone had entered his Geo Metro, which was parked in his driveway.
“Tools and miscellaneous vehicle parts from an adjacent carport were lying on the ground next to the vehicle,” Cameron said.
According to the report, the officer retrieved a personally owned firearm from his home, checked the area and found Boston hiding behind his pickup truck, also parked in the driveway.
“When confronted by the resident, Boston stated she was attempting to ‘fix’ the vehicle so she could drive it to Neah Bay,” Cameron said.
The corrections officer held the woman at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies and the trooper arrived, he said.
Deputies reported that a cellphone and other items that were kept in the Geo Metro were found in Boston’s possession.
The case is being forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review and possible filing of formal charges, Cameron said.
