PORT ANGELES — No surprises surfaced when final official results for the mid-May Port Angeles School District maintenance and operations levy were released Friday.
Of 11,917 total votes cast in the all-mail election that concluded May 17, 71.9 percent of voters — 8,573 — approved of the levy.
Only 28.1 percent of voters — 3,344 — voted against the measure that was the second and final chance for the district to get a levy passed this year.
Had it failed, the district would have had to slash $4.5 million from next year’s school budget.
Instead, the levy allows the school district to raise just over $6 million a year for the next two years from property owners to fund approximately 17 percent of the district’s operating budget.
The final election results produced by Clallam County Auditor Cathleen McKeown also confirmed that 64.8 percent of voters participated in the election — a much higher percentage than in the previous two levy elections in Port Angeles.
A total of 18,416 ballots were mailed to voters for the May 17 election.
