Noted artist Fourbears makes stop at Port Angeles studio today

PORT ANGELES — The celebrated artist Joseph Fourbears and his wife, Annette, will visit The Landing mall’s Randolf Frederick Co. Studio this afternoon to bring in new work and meet fellow art lovers.

Fourbears, who grew up on the Omaha Reservation in Macy, Neb., and went on to become a commercial artist working for the Grateful Dead, Elton John and other rockers, now lives in Indianola.

He and Annette will arrive in Port Angeles around noon today, said studio owner and jewelry artist Randy Frederick.

The couple will stay for a couple of hours at the studio upstairs in The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave.

Fourbears’ art is a mix of enamels, acrylic, water and a sensibility that has enchanted passers-by, said Frederick, who has displayed the painter’s work for several weeks now.

“His art is just, wow,” he added.

“I had one of his pieces up for only 19 hours. I put it up at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and the first customer the next morning, walking through to get to the hallway said, ‘That’s mine.’

“He is very prolific. Art is kind of his medicine,” Frederick said of Fourbears, who is a Vietnam war Weteran.
