PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man charged after a brief car chase that ended with his pickup truck wrecked at a Sequim gas station has pleaded not guilty to eluding police and theft charges.
Daniel Robert Davis, 43, pleaded not guilty Friday in Clallam County Superior Court to one count each of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and unauthorized control of a credit card.
Davis’ jury trial has been set for June 3, with his next court appearance May 10.
He remained in the Clallam County jail Saturday in lieu of $15,000 bond.
Davis was arrested April 1 after he lost control of his white Chevrolet S-10 truck and crashed into the outer gas pump island at Kettel’s 76 Station at 194 W. Washington St.
According to police accounts, the crash followed a 74-second pursuit that found a Clallam County sheriff’s deputy and two Sequim police officers chasing Davis through Sequim, reaching speeds of 40 mph in 25 mph zones.
The chase left documents — Davis allegedly had stolen them from a storage unit earlier that evening and tossed them into his truck bed — strewn across streets along the course of the pursuit.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that deputies had a probable-cause alert out for Davis’ arrest because he was wanted in Port Angeles for allegedly possessing stolen property.
Deputy Brian Knutson had attempted to pull Davis over on West Washington Street before the chase began.
Davis reportedly ran several stop signs before eventually missing a left turn onto Second Avenue and careening into the gas station.
