Some people were literally left out in the cold as motels across the North Olympic Peninsula were booked solid because of the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, sports tournaments and three-day weekend holiday visitors.
“Actually, I had people this morning that had slept in their cars all night,” said Holly Dempsey, assistant manager of Best Western Olympic Lodge in Port Angeles, where the Juan de Fuca Festival continues through today.
With folks traveling during the holiday weekend, Dempsey said the “whole town was pretty much sold out.”
A majority of tourists checking in at the Best Western were from the Seattle area, according to Dempsey.
That wasn’t the case at the sold-out Port Angeles Inn overlooking downtown.
“We’ve had quite a few from Texas, Virginia, Ohio, Idaho and scattered from all over,” said Carol Smith, desk clerk at the inn. “Even some from New York and Rhode Island.”
