PORT ANGELES — The Northwinds Homeschool Band is offering hanging flower baskets for Mother’s Day to help pay for a performance tour to Washington, D.C.

Members of the band have planted 400 hanging flowering baskets that are now available for $30 per basket, with a discount of 10 percent for orders of four or more.

The baskets will be delivered by Mother’s Day, said Gina Lowman, band board member.

Washington, D.C.

Band members are raising money for an anticipated performance tour to Washington, D.C., next spring.

The nonprofit Northwinds Homeschool Band, led by Director Dan Tutton, placed second in the A-1 Division at the Clark College Jazz Festival in January.

Alto saxophonist Claire Henninger and trumpet player Adam Kennedy were given outstanding musician awards for their solo performances.

In 2014, the band competed against private and public school bands from all over the nation at the Anaheim Heritage Festival in Southern California.

The band received two gold awards, one silver award and two maestro awards for outstanding solos.

The band also received the Spirit of Anaheim Award, presented to the group that best represents its community.

While in California, the band played two concerts at Disneyland and participated in two Disney Studios recording session workshops.

The band also performed in 2011 at the Heritage Festival in Washington, D.C., where it was awarded three gold medals and one silver medal as well as an adjudicators award for highest score, a maestro award and the overall outstanding band award.

The band has recently taken shorter performance tours to Idaho, British Columbia and within Washington state.
