PORT ANGELES — No one was seriously injured when a deer caused a three-vehicle wreck that included a runaway vehicle in the Morse Creek section of U.S. Highway 101, according to the State Patrol.
All four vehicles were eastbound at milepost 252 in Morse Creek shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, the State Patrol stated in an incident memo.
A 2003 Honda Civic driven by Shanee M. Wimberly, 30, of Port Angeles, was following too close to a 2004 Honda Pilot utility vehicle driven by Hailey E. Hollingsworth, 24, of Port Angeles when traffic stopped for a deer in the roadway, the memo stated.
Wimberly’s Civic struck Hollingsworth’s Pilot, causing it to run into a 2010 Mazda M3S driven by Penguin N. Revik, 35, of Port Angeles. All three vehicles came to a stop in the right lane. Hollingsworth stepped out of her Pilot but left it in drive, causing it to strike Revik’s Mazda, which moved toward the left lane, according to the memo.
Clifton D. Paige, 68, of Lacey stopped his 2015 Mitsubishi in the left lane to prevent the Pilot from doing any damage, the memo stated. Hollingsworth got back into her Pilot and parked it in the left lane.
The Civic, Pilot and M3S all were damaged. Wimberly was treated at the scene for a minor wrist injury. All parties were wearing seatbelts.
Wimberly was cited for following too close and Hollingsworth was cited for an unattended motor vehicle.
