No one injured in Agnew house fire

ANGEW — A two-story house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage this weekend, said Clallam County Fire District 3 Captain Travis Anderson.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday at 150 Cliff Robinson Lane, about a half-mile west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and Dryke Road in Agnew.

Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from a single-story attachment to the two-story house. When they investigated, they saw flames and called 9-1-1, Anderson said Monday.

The homeowners were not home at the time but called dispatchers to report no one was in the home, Anderson said.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames that had started working their way into the attic, so they began putting water on the flames. The smoke had filled the house from floor to ceiling, so a hole was cut in the ceiling for venting, which allowed firefighters to enter through the front door, Anderson said.

“We conducted a search of the structure,” he said. “We’d been told nobody was in there but like to make sure. We searched and didn’t find anybody, which was good.”

The fire remained under investigation Monday, but it appears it may have started in a laundry room, which sustained heavy smoke and fire damage, Anderson said. The rest of the house sustained heavy smoke and water damage throughout.

“The house is still standing. The second floor was totally fine. We kept it to the room where it started,” Anderson said.

Fire District 3 responded with three engines, three tenders, a rescue unit and a medic.

Clallam County Fire District 2 sent an engine that was put on standby and a tender that was canceled.

Firefighters were on the scene for two hours, Anderson said.
