BLYN — A collision involving an empty log truck and a freight truck Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 101 at Chicken Coop Road blocked or slowed traffic in both directions for more than an hour but resulted in no injuries, a State Patrol spokeswoman said.
Trooper Krista Hedstrom said a log truck owned by Rygaard Trucking of Port Angeles and driven by Michael Wade Warren, 45, of Port Angeles was heading eastbound on Highway 101 at about 8:10 a.m. when it made a sudden stop and hit a guardrail.
The driver was avoiding rear-ending a vehicle turning left off the highway onto Chicken Coop Road, Hedstrom said.
The log truck then swerved left over the centerline and collided with a semi-freight-truck owned by Atlas Trucking Inc. of Port Angeles and driven by Alfred Lawrence Alderon, 44, of Port Angeles, Hedstrom said.
No one was injured, she said.
The highway was reopened at about 9:50 a.m. after the State Patrol investigated and a commercial truck towing company was called in from Port Angeles to remove the log truck.
Traffic was detoured until the highway was cleared.
State Department of Transportation personnel aided in traffic control.
