PORT ANGELES — Work crews will do overlay work at the intersection of West Railroad Avenue and North Laurel Street on Thursday to improve the intersection’s connection to the newly resurfaced Railroad Avenue.
The work is expected to be completed in one evening, said Nathan West, city community and economic development director, and likely will start after 10 p.m.
Jim Mahlum, city civil engineer, said the work would be done Thursday night.
The time was chosen to impact traffic at the intersection as little as possible, West said.
Crews will lay down a new layer of asphalt so the intersection lines up better with the newly improved Railroad Avenue, West said, which opened to vehicle traffic earlier this summer.
The improvements are part of the city’s $3.9 million esplanade project, which has resurfaced West Railroad Avenue and the northernmost section of North Oak Street, and added parking spaces to the two streets.
The project will also extend a concrete promenade extending over the shoreline parallel to Railroad Avenue that will feature lighted walking, biking and seating areas.
