NEWS BRIEFS: Zombie Crawl lurches into Port Townsend this Saturday … and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The 2017 Port Townsend Zombie Crawl will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Ersatz zombies will assemble at Haller Fountain at 3:30 p.m. before starting to walk, crawl, creep, run, lurch and limp through town.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted for a charity that provides meals for school children over weekends, according to Tour Port Townsend and the Brass Screw Confederacy, hosts of the walk.

Zombie costumes will be judged by the Twisted History Team. Prizes will be awarded for best overall zombie, best zombie couple and best child zombie.

Participants can go to www.twistedhistorytours.com/Halloween.html to preregister and enter into a prize drawing for a gift certificate for Port Townsend’s own Rose Theatre.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday service speaker will be the Rev. Donna Little.

Her lesson at the church at 2917 E. Myrtle St. is titled “The Power of Zeal.”

Little is a resident of Sequim and is a licensed and ordained Unity minister.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

Taize service

SEQUIM — All are welcome to the ecumenical Taize service at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., at 7 p.m. ­Monday.

There will be a meditative, candlelit atmosphere that includes singing simple, repetitive songs during the hourlong service.

Taize will continue to be held the fourth Monday of each month.

New choir director

PORT TOWNSEND — First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend appointed Sarah Moran as its director of the Chancel Choir.

Moran, of Chimacum, is a graduate of Eastman School of Music and is doctoral candidate in vocal performance at the University of Washington.

She served as the director of choirs for First Lutheran Church in Bothell for the previous four years.

‘Messy Church’

PORT ANGELES — The public is invited to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church’s intergenerational worship event “Messy Church” at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The event’s theme at the church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., is “Jesus Wants Everybody to Have Enough Food.”

Featured at the event will be a meal and activities.
