COUPEVILLE — There will be field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Complex for this week.
There will be landing practice at the Outlying Landing Field in
Coupeville from afternoon to early evening Wednesday.
Practice is also slated for afternoon to early evening Thursday.
There will be landing practice operations at Ault Field mid-morning to mid-afternoon today.
Practice is also slated for late morning to afternoon Tuesday.
Operations will continue late morning to afternoon Friday.

Chain gang busy
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang cleaned along
8 miles of its Adopt-a-Highway area, picking up 180 pounds of garbage during the week of Dec. 24-28.
Notable items found include a life preserver and a 5-gallon bucket.
Crew members worked in the jail’s R tank stripping and waxing floors, pressure washing the bathroom and cleaning the shower stalls.
Crew members also chipped storm debris along Power Plant, Place, Airport, East Beach, Ranger and Elwha River roads as well as Edgewood Drive.
During 2018 the chain gang cleaned 153.25 miles of roadway, picked up 8,440 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 100,250 pounds of dumpsite litter, recycled 743 pounds of aluminum, trimmed 19,104 feet of guardrail, removed or sprayed 50,315 Scotch broom plants and brushed
12.1 miles of county rights-of-way.
For the Forest Service, during 2018, the chain gang cleaned 4.5 miles of forest roads or trails, removed 12,610 pounds of dumpsite litter and removed 23 hazard trees.
Port Angeles employees give back to community
PORT ANGELES — The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees local 1619 and International Union of Operating Engineers local 302 teamed up to collect toys and supplies to donate to local families.
According to a press release, the unions worked with OlyCAP to find three local families in need.
Union members collected toys at their holiday parties.
The union also purchased prizes from local businesses to raffle off and used the proceeds to purchase clothes, shoes, complete holiday meals and other supplies.
