PA town hall slated
PORT ANGELES — U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer will hold a town hall meeting at Peninsula College on Wednesday, April 4 as part of a series of gatherings on college campuses in the state’s sixth Congressional District.
Interested students and community members can RSVP for the 5 p.m. meeting at the college’s Little Theatre, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. To RSVP, visit Kilmer’s Facebook page and select “Events.”
An RSVP is not required but is suggested in order to stay up to date on time and location changes, event organizers said.
Kilmer is holding the meetings to hear how students might be affected by a cut of $4 billion in annual funding for student aid and changes to how the government loans money to students proposed in President Donald Trump’s budget, according to the press release announcing the town halls.
Kilmer’s meeting in Port Angeles is one of three stops scheduled with events also slated at the University of Washington in Tacoma on April 3 and Olympic College in Bremerton on April 5.

Wind Rose Cellars wins Best in Show
OLYMPIA — Wind Rose Cellars’ Primitivo wine received two honors at the 2018 Capital Food and Wine Festival.
The 2013 Sequim-based wine won the Best in Show and Best Red Wine at the festival in Olympia last Saturday.
It vied for the titles alongside more than 100 other varietal and blended wines from wineries across the state.
Cellars’ owner and winemaker, David Volmut said in a press release the 2013 vintage was “a
near perfect growing season.”
The grapes for the wine came from the Stonetree Vineyard, on the Wahluke Slope in Prosser.

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center has employed Vickie Swanson, RN, MSN, as its new director of surgical services.
Swanson has more than 34 years of experience in nursing and has a background in management and operations of surgical services.
As director, Swanson will oversee the general hospital surgery department, the PACU (surgery recovery unit), short-stay, endoscopy and help provide expertise to Central Sterile Processing.
