NEWS BRIEFS: Tree strikes home on reservation … and other items

PORT ANGELES — A large tree fell onto an occupied residence on the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal reservation in blustery winds Tuesday evening, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Chief Sam Phillips said.

No one was injured when the tree fell onto a back bedroom of the house on Lilu Lane, Phillips said Wednesday.

Phillips said the tree had a rotten core and broke apart when it crashed into the residence west of Port Angeles.

“It did not do any damage to the house,” Phillips said.

Lower Elwha police were on scene. The tree fell shortly before 6 p.m.

Winds gusted to 24 mph at William R. Fairchild Memorial Airport in Port Angeles before the tree fell, according to National Weather Service observations.
