NEWS BRIEFS: Traffic disruption on West Cedar Street in Sequim planned starting Monday . . . and other items

SEQUIM — Traffic will be reduced to one lane heading eastbound on West Cedar Street between Sequim Avenue and Second Avenue for three weeks beginning Monday.

The closure of the westbound lane will allow sidewalk construction, city officials said.

The Jefferson County Transit stop will be moved temporarily from West Cedar Street in front of the Transit Center to Second Avenue during construction.

Businesses on West Cedar Street will be open during the construction project.

The parking spaces on the south side of West Cedar Street also will change from parallel striping to diagonal striping as recommended in the city downtown plan and to provide more room for parallel parking on the north side of West Cedar Street in front of the new civic center, which is expected to be finished later this spring.

Traffic to be restricted to one lane

PORT ANGELES — Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Front Street from Cherry Street to Valley Street beginning Monday through April 3.

The roadway will be open to two-lane traffic each night and on weekends, the city said.

The work, which is scheduled to be completed by April 3, is a recent add-on to Phase 2 of the Port Angeles Combined Sewage Overflow project, a 16-month project in the downtown area, according to a Public Works Department spokesperson.

Craig Fulton, city engineer, was not available Thursday for comment on what work will be done.

TEK Construction Inc. of Bellingham was awarded the $15 million construction bid.

Work on Front and Lincoln streets will begin in April and is expected to be complete by August.

The entire project will entail stormwater and sewer separation, new sewer and stormwater lines on Lincoln and Front streets, and replacement of a pump station on Marine Drive.
