PORT ANGELES — Race Street between Caroline and Georgiana streets will be closed at noon Thursday, city officials said.
The closure is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. Friday, depending on the weather and progress.
The temporary closure is to allow construction of the Georgiana Street sewer and stormwater improvements.
Diver found dead
PORT GAMBLE — A commercial diver working on an underwater environmental study off the coast of Port Gamble has died.
The Coast Guard, the Kitsap County sheriff’s office and members of the public searched for the 25-year-old after he failed to surface with his team Monday evening.
Search-and-rescue divers found his body at about 9 p.m. in 20 feet of water about 60 yards offshore.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ken Dickinson told The Seattle Times that more information about the diver and his company will be released after his family has been notified.
An air crew from the Port Angeles Coast Guard base participated in the search.
Performance added
PORT TOWNSEND — In light of the sold-out performances of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” Key City Public Theatre is adding an extra performance during this closing week.
Besides the shows already scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and the 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday, Key City will bring the “Bee” to the stage for a 2:30 p.m. performance Saturday.
Tickets range from $20 to $24 via keycitypublictheatre.org and 360-385-KCPT (5278). If any are left, they’ll also be sold at the door of the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St.
The musical comedy, about six middle-school overachievers making their way through a spelling competition, stars Tomoki Sage, Austin Krieg, Leah Finch and New York City-bred comic Marcy Girt.
Amy Sousa is the director, and then there’s the house band with pianist Linda Dowdell leading the way.
