NEWS BRIEFS: Talk postponed … and other items

News events on the North Olympic Peninsula.

FORKS — A University of Washington professor’s presentation about carbon emissions and Initiative 732 has been postponed due to the approaching storms.

Originally scheduled for 7 p.m. today, the talk was one of the Olympic National Resource Center’s Evening Talks at 1455 S. Forks Ave.

Bruce Lippke, professor emeritus of the School of Environmental and Forest Science of the University of Washington, had been scheduled to speak about how to keep fossil emissions out of the atmosphere and potential policy impacts on carbon emissions.

Frank Hanson of the ONRC said the talk will be rescheduled.

Medicare part D info meeting set

FORKS — Information about Medicare Part D drugs plans will be presented by Olympic Area on Aging at a town hall meeting at the Forks

Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, at 6 p.m. Monday.

Annual enrollment starts this Saturday and goes through Dec. 7.

The event, hosted by the Olympic Area Agency on Aging, is free.

Fellowship service

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road, will host Victoria Poling, a Master of Divinity student from Seattle University, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Poling says in essayist Rebecca Solnit’s book, “A Field Guide to Getting Lost,” “Wandering is not about being lost but about trying to lose yourself.”

Poling has worked in nonprofit management and taught experimental education programs for over 15 years. She currently serves on the boards of the Resonance Path Institute in Seattle and the Quimper Mercantile in Port Townsend.

There will be a religious exploration for children ages 4-18 during the services, as well as a nursery for younger toddlers and infants.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will present guest speaker Niobe Weaver on “Be Here Now” from the teachings of Ram Dass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Weaver is a sound healer and singer.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.
