NEWS BRIEFS: State parks to hold free days in January

OLYMPIA — The state Parks and Recreation Commission recently announced that there will be two free days in January.

On Jan. 1 and Jan. 21 visitors to state parks will not need a Discover Pass.

This does not apply to land managed by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife or the Department 0f Natural Resources, visitors to those areas will still need an annual or one-day pass.

On Jan 1. more than 30 state parks, including Fort Worden and Fort Flagler, will host First Day Hikes.

According to a press release, state parks are open for free days up to 12 times each year.

The next free day will celebrate the commission’s 106th birthday March 19.

Yoga storytime

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System will host sessions of Yoga Storytime in three of its branches in January.

The Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., will hold a session at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.

The Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., will hold a session at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.

The Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave., will hold the final session at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4.

The program features stories, songs, yoga poses and breathing exercises, no yoga experience is necessary.

The program is designed for children and their caregivers.
