NEWS BRIEFS: Smoke briefly closes store in Sequim . . . and other items

SEQUIM —The Safeway store in Sequim was evacuated Friday because of smoke coming from a vent, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 officials said.

Thick smoke was reported at about 9:13 a.m. near the front of the store where lottery tickets are sold, Fire District No. 3 Assistant Chief Dan Orr said.

“It looks like the fan motor went out,” Orr said.

The store was evacuated as a precaution.

The faulty fan was isolated, and the store reopened shortly after noon.

An electrician was on scene.

“All’s fine,” Orr said Friday.
