Memory cafe
PORT HADLOCK — The East Jefferson County Memory Cafe will meet from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Ferino’s Pizzeria, 846 Ness’ Corner Road.
The memory cafe is a gathering of people with memory loss, their friends and families to connect and socialize.
Attendance is free.
Refreshments may be purchased.

Chain gang working on area cleanups
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang cleaned out a ditch and culvert on Dan Kelly Road during the week of Sept. 3-6.
Crew members found an illegal dumpsite on North Brook Street, two illegal dumpsites on Fish Hatchery Road and three illegal dumpsites on Little River Road totaling 960 pounds of garbage from the six dumpsites.
Crew members also chipped brush and debris on Thompson Road.
Crew members also cleaned weeds (approximately 120 plants) from a sand pile at the county shop.
Crew members also brushed approximately .25 miles of Forest Service Road 2878 and removed eight dangerous trees.
Notable items found along roadways were two couches, one wood speaker box, one needle, coils of wire, roofing, metal tire rim, a wood cabinet and carpeting.
During the week of Sept. 10-14, crew members found an illegal dumpsite on Port Williams Road, one on Laird’s Corner and another on South Bayview Road totaling 8,660 pounds of garbage from the three dumpsites.
Crew members also cleaned out the ditch on Freshwater Bay Road.
Crew members also cleaned weeds (approximately 150 plants) from a sand pile at the county shop.
Crew members picked up and took back to the shop ADS pipe, sand bags, wood and plastic from a previous job on West Bluff Drive.
Crew members cleared brush and trees from the county right-of-way on West Bluff Drive.
Crew members also cut up and removed downed trees and limbs from Benson Road.
Notable items found along roadways were 10 needles, two mattresses, a baby stroller, a sewing machine, two TVs, a 5-gallon propane tank, a plastic tote, blankets, food items, an air compressor, a boat with motor and two motorhomes with contents.
The chain gang has so far this year cleaned 99.75 miles of roadway, picked up 62,440 pounds of dumpsite litter, picked up 5,630 pounds of roadside litter, recycled 224 pounds of aluminum, removed or sprayed 33,810 Scotch broom plants, trimmed 19,104 feet of guardrail and brushed 9.85 miles of county rights-of-way.
For the forest service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 4.5 miles of forest roads or trails, removed 12,610 pounds of dumpsite litter and removed 23 hazard trees.
