PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Foundation announced that it has nearly 70 scholarships totaling more than $100,000 to award to students attending Peninsula College’s 2018-19 academic year.
The scholarships became available Monday.
Application deadlines vary, with the majority due April 22, event organizers said. Applicants are advised to check each scholarship’s deadline.
To apply for a scholarship:
• Visit www.thewashboard.org.
• Create a login and a personal profile.
• Enter “Peninsula College” in the search toolbar to review the list of all available college and foundation scholarships.
Additional scholarships might become available, so those interested are encouraged to check the site often for any updates, organizers said.
Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the scholarship deadline will not be accepted.
Scholarship award notifications for general scholarships will be provided to students beginning May 21.
Students awarded nursing scholarships will be notified starting July 30.

Senior health talk
PORT ANGELES — The public is invited to a panel discussion about senior health and living options at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The free event will be held at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
The panel will be composed of representatives from Home Instead Senior Care, Jim’s Pharmacy Home Health, Park View Villas, Highland Court Memory Care, Crestwood Heath Rehab, and Assured Hospice of Clallam and Jefferson Counties.
The first half of the two-hour event will feature the six representatives talking about what their business does, and its role in the scheme of senior care and housing.
After each speaks their piece, Carlie Robertson of Laurel Place Assisted Living will act as moderator for a Q-and-A session.
Refreshments will be provided by Park View Villa’s kitchen and the senior center.

Sequim real estate firms donate to school program
SEQUIM — Windermere Real Estate/Sequim-East and Sunland donated $2,000 to the Sequim School District McKinney-Vento Program recently.
The funds were distributed by the Windermere Foundation, which is amassed by a portion of each Windermere brokers’ commissions.
The program assists area students experiencing homelessness by providing them resources for transportation, shelter, communication and financial assistance for expenses related to seeking higher education.
There are 130 district students enrolled in the program this year, according to a news release.
In 2017, roughly 25 percent had secured stable, adequate and fixed housing at the end of the school year in June, according to the release.
