NEWS BRIEFS: Roosevelt Elementary School clothing swap starts today … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Roosevelt Clothing Swap is set today and Saturday.

The swap will be open for Roosevelt Elementary School families from 5 to 8 tonight during family movie night in the school’s gym at 106 Monroe Road.

It will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Roosevelt gym.

Clothes will be priced by donation. Proceeds will benefit the holiday food basket project. Leftover clothing will be sent to local charities.

Concessions will be available for purchase, including a hot dog/nacho meal deal for $3.

The school has been accepting donations throughout the week through today. Donations of clean clothing, sorted by size and gender, can be delivered to the school between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Transit schedules

Transit public buses will not operate on Thanksgiving Day in Clallam or Jefferson County.

All services — including Clallam Transit’s regular weekday fixed-route, dial-a-ride, Clallam Connect and Strait Shot bus service and Jefferson Transit’s range of services — will continue next Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, officials announced.

Clallam County’s administration office will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24, and will reopen Monday, Nov. 27.

Clallam Transit reinstated day-after-Thanksgiving service in 2014.

“This is the fourth year CTS [Clallam Transit System] has committed to restore service eliminated during the recession years,” Operations Manager Steve Hopkins said in a news release.

“CTS is in the process of evaluating ridership and the community support for this service from 2014 though 2017.”

Hopkins said Clallam Transit supports local businesses by “providing a healthy, stress-free and cost-saving way for our community to start the holiday shopping season.”

Child care is available during the service.
