NEWS BRIEFS: Quorum is possible for city meeting … and other items

SEQUIM — A quorum of the Sequim City Council could be in attendance at an informational meeting on a recently completed affordable housing study and proposed action plan.

The meeting is today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Civic Center Council Chambers, 152 W. Cedar St.

The affordable housing study was conducted to help the city identify the nature of the existing housing supply within city limits, according to a press release.

The study outlines the city’s social, economic and demographic information and how that relates to the housing market’s affordability.

The action plan contains potential steps the city might take to address housing affordability, supply and demand.

Meeting participants will have the opportunity to provide input on elements of the action plan strategies.

The study and action plan were developed by Tom Beckwith from Beckwith Consulting Group and Eric Hovee from Ed Hovee & Co.

Orientation

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County will conduct orientation sessions for people interested in volunteering with the organization.

There will be a session from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday in Carlsborg.

Volunteers interested in attending this session should call 360-775-7806 for directions.

There also will be a session from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Hospice House, 810 S. Albert St., Port Angeles.

Volunteers are needed to help deliver medical equipment, assist in the office or support hospice patients by being a companion volunteer.

There also is an ongoing need for drivers and delivery assistants in Port Angeles and an immediate need for an additional grant writer and someone familiar with WordPress for web redesign.

Club to meet

CHIMACUM — The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the back room of the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.

Chapter member Billie Fitch will present pictures of a hybrid rhododendron from a Hansville estate.

The public is invited to the free meeting.

Refreshments will be provided.

Fair royalty sought

The Clallam County Fair recently announced an application deadline of Saturday, Nov. 10, for its 2019 fair royalty.

Applications can be obtained at Clallam County high schools and online at www.clallamcountyfair.com.

Applicants must bring a completed application to an orientation meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 in the fairgrounds kitchen, 1608 W. 16th St.

Royalty positions are open to Clallam County high school students in ninth through 12th grades with a 2.60 grade-point average or better.

Students do not have to be a 4-H or FFA member.

Royalty must attend the 2019 Clallam County Fair, set for Aug. 15-18.

Fair royalty participates in parades and community events.

Membership drive

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Veterans Center will hold an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10.

The open house at 215 S. Francis St. is in celebration of the center’s 88th anniversary.

Veterans and their families are invited for cake, coffee, punch and balloons.

Boutique set to open Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Chelsea Winfield has announced the grand opening of her new boutique from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The boutique, Amma’s Umma, at 129 E. First St., will feature ethically-sourced clothing.

The first 60 visitors will be greeted with a cakepop and a sparkling drink.

The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m.
