NEWS BRIEFS: Quimper Grange to host community game night Monday night . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., will host a community game night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

Games include Farkel, dominoes, Trouble, Sequence and games participants bring.

There is a suggested donation of $1 to $5 to help maintain the hall.

Child care is provided for game-playing-age kids as long as their parents or guardians are on-site.

KONP talk guests

PORT ANGELES — Here is this week’s schedule for the 1:05 p.m. to 2 p.m. local talk show segment on KONP radio, at 1450 AM, 101.7 FM and www.konp.com on the Internet outside the Port Angeles area.

Station General Manager Todd Ortloff hosts the Monday through Thursday segments.

■ Thursday: WOW! Working on Wellness forum speaker Kevin Pedrey, LMT, CCT, CFT, owner of Sequim Gym, discusses “active isolated stretching,” which improves flexibility and aids in recovering from injuries.

Second segment: Julie Hatch and Laila and John Singhose discuss the Joyce Daze Blackberry Festival.

Guest speaker

SEQUIM — The Dungeness Bonsai Society will host arborist Joshua Dullen at the Pioneer Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Dullen is certified as an arborist by the International Society of Arborculture.

He will address the principles of tree physiology, offer a discussion about do-it-yourself pruning and discuss the cues to look for and the questions to ask when hiring a professional for larger jobs.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Refreshments will be served.

Apple roundtable

SEQUIM — The Strait Macintosh User group will host a roundtable event at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Four local Apple experts will show participant tips, tricks and good practices on the full range of Apple products in addition to answering questions.

The public is welcome and refreshments will be served.

Meditation set on lawn

PORT ANGELES — Jikyo Wolfer will present an introductory session to meditation at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The program is free and will take place on the lawn outside the main entrance to the library.

In the event of inclement weather, the session will take place inside the Raymond Carver Room.

Participants can bring a yoga mat or beach towel.

Wolfer is a Soto Zen Buddhist priest and Dharma teacher at Joyous Refuge in Port Angeles who began her meditation practice in 1987. She holds a master’s in counseling psychology from St. Martin’s University, Lacey.

SEQUIM — The Olympic Medical Cancer Center, 844 N. Fifth Ave., will offer the following free cancer support groups throughout August.

■ Women’s Cancer Support Group — OMCC library, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23.

■ Cancer Wellness Series, “Life Review as a Healing Process” — Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17.
