PORT TOWNSEND — Nancy Erley will give a talk, “Ten Things I Wish I Knew Before I Went Cruising,” on the second floor of the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Erley is a sail instructor, circumnavigator, an internationally acclaimed speaker and founder of Tethys Offshore Sailing for Women, an advocate for women’s sailing, according to a news release..
Erley made two voyages around the world in her boat Tethys, during which she provided hands-on ocean-sailing experience to more than 50 women.
The event is free and open to the public.
Genealogy speaker
CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County Genealogical Society will present Mary Roddy on “Read ’Em or Weep” at 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
There will be a meet-and-greet from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The event will take place at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.
Roddy’s program involves finding free and pay newspaper sites online and will show a method to do a “thorough searching in every newspaper every time,” according to a news release.
This event is free and open to the public, though donations are accepted.

EJFR open houses
In support of National Fire Safety Week, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue will hold two open houses for the public.
Station 1-6, located at 701 Harrison St. in Uptown Port Townsend, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Station 1-1, located at 9193 Rhody Drive in Chimacum, will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the same day.
Fire department personnel will be on hand to conduct station tours.
Kids of all ages are welcome to view fire engines and ambulances in the apparatus bays.
Free fire safety materials will be available, as well as light refreshments.
The first 25 visiting families to each station will receive a surprise gift.

Marathon bingo
PORT ANGELES — The Agnew Helpful Neighbors Club will host a “marathon bingo” session at 1241 Far Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
This event will go toward helping the scholarship fund and building maintenance.
Bingo will also take place on Tuesdays each week with minium buy-in at $10-plus for progressive games.
A holiday bazaar will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
Tables are available to rent, and the kitchen will be open for food and snacks.
