PORT TOWNSEND — Service on the Port Townsend/Coupeville route will be suspended Saturday and Sunday while seismic upgrades on the Coupevile ferry terminal are completed.
Reservations have been blocked. Sailings between Port Townsend and Coupeville are scheduled to resume at 6:30 a.m. Monday, but reservations are blocked that day in case unplanned delays require work to extend past Sunday night, Washington State Ferries said.
Work to make eight in-water columns at the Coupeville ferry terminal safer in an earthquake has already begun. During the upcoming closure, crews contracted with the state ferry service will temporarily dismantle and seismically reinforce the columns supporting the towers that raise and lower the 15-foot-wide movable bridge used to connect docked ferries to the terminal.
These repairs are the last stage of work on this project.
During the closure, Port Townsend/Coupeville customers can use the Edmonds/Kingston, Mukilteo/Clinton and Seattle/Bainbridge ferries as alternate routes.
Customers traveling on those routes should expect longer wait times, the ferry service said, adding that Twitter and ferry travel alerts with wait-time information will be sent throughout the weekend.
Flags for ceremony
PORT ANGELES — Veteran organization flags to be displayed during the Veterans Day ceremony at the Port Angeles Coast Guard station Nov. 11 must be delivered the day before.
The Clallam County Veterans Association, which is sponsoring the ceremony, announced that the Coast Guard station on Ediz Hook will accept flags at the gate of the base from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 10.
All flags will be collected at the gate and taken to a hangar on the base for the ceremony scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11.
All flags will need to be picked up immediately following the ceremony, said Tammy Sullenger, secretary of the Clallam County Veterans Association.
Those who cannot coordinate with the time period are asked to contact Sullenger for alternate instructions. She can be reached at 360-477-5120.
Election Day prayer
PORT TOWNSEND —The First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., will offer a nonpartisan service of prayer for the nation on Election Day this Tuesday at noon.
It will be a brief time of reflection, silence, Scripture and song.
The service is open to all.
The sanctuary will remain open for individual prayer and reflection until 3 p.m. Election Day.
St. Andrew’s prayer
PORT ANGELES — St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., will be open for prayer on Election Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
All are welcome.
Come for five minutes or the entire time.
Nothing formal will be offered until a service of Holy Communion at noon.

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics at 2917 E. Myrtle St. will host guest speaker Kim Perkins at its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.
Her lesson is “The Magic of Your Heart.”
A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
