PORT TOWNSEND — Daytime traffic will be one-way in the downhill direction between Taylor and Washington streets beginning Monday.
Construction on the Jefferson Street Sidewalk Project, which extends from the intersection of Jefferson and Taylor streets to the intersection of Quincy and Washington streets, will typically occur between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., according to Laura Parsons, project manager.
Alternate routes to uptown will be Washington Street to Monroe Street or Washington Street to Harrison Street, city officials said.

UW band bus crashes
PULLMAN — The University of Washington marching band did not perform during the school’s annual rivalry game against Washington State University on Friday, after one of its three charter buses rolled onto its side while traveling from Seattle to eastern Washington for the game.
Athletics Director Jennifer Cohen said in a statement early Friday the band members decided they needed to recover and return home instead of continuing on to Pullman, where the teams were set to play in the Apple Cup.
The Washington State band performed the Washington fight song “Bow Down to Washington” during a pregame performance on the field. The section of Martin Stadium where the Washington band would have sat was roped off and left empty.
The bus crashed Thursday evening on an icy stretch of Interstate 90 in central Washington. Of the 56 people on board, 47 were taken to hospitals for evaluation or treatment. The university said Friday morning that two remain under medical care for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
Operation Candy Cane slated
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department will conduct its 34th annual Operation Candy Cane from Saturday through Thursday, Dec. 6.
During the operation, Port Angeles firefighters will be driving Santa Claus around town in a 1956 Seagrave fire engine.
The firefighters will be handing out candy canes and collecting cans of food or money for local food banks.
This year’s schedule is:
• Saturday: west of I and M streets in west Port Angeles.
• Sunday, Dec. 2: between I and L streets to C Street.
• Monday, Dec. 3: C Street to Lincoln Street.
• Tuesday, Dec. 4: Chase Street to Chambers Street.
• Wednesday, Dec. 5: Jones Street to Golf Course Road.
• Thursday, Dec. 6: above Lauridsen Boulevard.
Food bank accepting donations
SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will be accepting non-perishable food donations for the Sequim Food Bank from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until Thursday, Dec. 20.
Donations can be placed in the red barrel in the lobby of the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.
Donated food will be delivered to the food bank in time for holiday meals.
Dry Creek discussion open house
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County road department will hold an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 to discuss the upcoming improvements to Dry Creek Road.
The public meeting will be held at Dry Creek Grange, 3130 Edgewood Drive.
Road department staff will be on hand to solicit public comments and to answer questions about the project.

Local students serve as representatives
PORT ANGELES — Student school board representatives were sworn in during a recent school board meeting.
Jasmine Jefferson, a senior at Lincoln High School, and Alisandra Baccus, a junior at Port Angles High School, are representatives to the board for the 2018-19 school year.
The student representatives are to serve as liaisons between the school district’s governing body and the students at Port Angeles and Lincoln high schools.
Student representatives are bound by the same rules and regulations pertaining to the elected Board of Directors.
The student representatives may participate in board discussions but may not make motions, vote, hold board offices or attend executive sessions.

Pot of Gold raffle winners drawn
CHIMACUM — The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County recently announced the winners of its 2018 Pot of Gold raffle.
According to a press release, there were four $2,500 first-prize winners: John Weaver, Joan Boucher, Mike Kenna and Marianne Walters.
A second prize $1,000 gift card for the Port Hadlock QFC, 1890 Irondale Road, was won by John Weaver who also won third prize, a $500 gift card from Hadlock Building Supply, 901 Ness’ Corner Road.
This year’s raffle raised more than $3,000 which will be used to support the club’s scholarship awards for Chimacum High School students and other club projects, such as supporting the Jefferson Teen Center.
The club contributes about $40,000 annually to scholarship programs and local projects.
Past projects have included the Bookmobile Bus Barn at the Port Hadlock Branch of the Jefferson County Library and the Rotary Pavilion at H.J. Carroll County Park.
Quinault open house invites community
AMANDA PARK — Staff from Olympic National Park will host an informal reception from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5.
The reception will be held in the Amanda Park Timberland Library, 6188 U.S. Highway 101.
Lee Taylor, Olympic National Park acting superintendent, said, “This is a great opportunity to meet and talk with members of the Quinault community and provide updates on park projects.”
The program will start with a short presentation which will be followed by time for questions.
Light snacks will be provided during the reception.
