PORT ANGELES — Nicholas Thorsten Emmett received his Eagle Scout rank during a recent Court of Honor at the location of his project, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 591 Monroe Road.
The project to replace a baseball backstop took more than 120 hours of labor by 17 people.
His crew leader for Crew 1191, Eric Van Orman, made the presentation.
Nicholas also has volunteered at the local food bank, assisted in community service projects and helped other scouts with their Eagle Scout projects.
He is the son of Douglas F. and Krista A. Emmett.
Building Knowledge
PORT ANGELES — Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co. and Hartnagel Building Supply will offer a new educational series about building materials from industry experts.
The Building Product Knowledge series is free and open to the public.
These training sessions will be held Wednesday mornings and will alternate stores each week; drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co. is located at 1601 S. C St., and Hartnagel Building Supply is at 3111 E. Highway 101.

Lifeguard classes
SEQUIM — The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., will offer a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class beginning Friday.
The class will also meet Saturday and Sunday and Aug. 30 and 31.
Successful participants will be certified as lifeguards for two years and also will be certified in CPR, first aid and AED.
The class is open to anyone at least 15 years of age.
The cost is $150, plus a $27.50 materials fee.
The center will create a hiring list from successful participants.

SEQUIM — Around Again, 22 Gilbert Road, will offer a free Passive Solar Refrigeration class at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Come learn about ways to keep things refrigerated without electricity and learn how to build a solar refrigerator, as well as how to make a “Zeer Pot” for outside refrigeration.
