NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles port to talk Lincoln Park trees at special meeting today … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Port of Port Angeles commissioners will discuss removal of trees from Lincoln Park when they meet at noon today.

The special meeting will be at port headquarters, 338 W. First St.

Commissioners will consider emergency authorization to remove eight to 20 trees encroaching on the flight path at Fairchild International Airport.

Port Angeles City Council members said Tuesday they would considering removing only part of the trees and leaving 10 feet of each tree for a community carving competition.

Port commissioners also will meet in executive session.

OMC special meeting

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center commissioners will consider ratifying a United Food and Commercial Works pro/tech bargaining agreement today.

The special meeting will be at noon in Linkletter Hall in the basement of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service speaker will be Timothy West.

His lesson at the church, 2917 E. Myrtle St., is titled “Understanding Divine Self.”

According to a news release: “The I am that I am creates great power in one’s life to live at one’s highest potential. Have you been saying no to your greatest good because you are not willing to trust your oneness in connection?”

West is a Unity prayer chaplain, as well as a youth and family ministry director.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

‘Water and Soul’

PORT TOWNSEND — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is offering a weeklong experimental program, “Water and Soul,” for ages 11-15 on July 16-21.

The entry fee is $175, which includes transit passes, all materials and a whale watching cruise.

Each day, the group will convene from 8 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m., the only exception being Thursday, July 20, when a full day of whale watching on the Puget Sound Express and visit to the whale museum in Friday Harbor ends at 5 p.m.

According to a news release: “The emphasis is on scientific aspects of the local watershed and heeding God’s call to care for and deepen our bonds with God’s good creation in our seaport home.”

Utilizing public transit, day trips to Admiralty Inlet, Kai Tai Lagoon, Chimacum Creek and Salmon Creek weir with poet and sculptor Tom Jay are planned.

Students will take scientific measurements of water pH, salinity and temperature; use drag nets to collect samples; observe microscopic creatures; and learn to identify any fish and animals.

Registration is required for this event by Monday, July 10.
