NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles pool commission to mull ballot measure today … and other items

PORT ANGELES — William Shore Memorial Pool District commissioners will consider approving a ballot measure today.

They will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The commissioners will consider putting a measure on the Nov. 7 general election ballot proposing the pool district incur indebtedness by issuing general obligation bonds in the amount of $3.5 million.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service speaker will be Karen King.

Her lesson at the church, located at 2917 E. Myrtle St., is titled “Growing from Deep Roots … In Love, Consciousness, in Community.”

According to a news release: “It’s important to understand the commonalities of new thought groups. There’s a shared heritage that exists and the fascinating story must be told. From this story, we learn tolerance, knowing that there exists no ‘better than.’ ”

King has served as a prayer associate in Silent Unity, as a marketing publicist for Unity Books and is a licensed Unity teacher.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

Musical service

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will hold a musical service, titled “Seasonings: Turning the Starwheel Through the Year,” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Choir director Joel Yelland will lead the choir, congregation and soloists through the seasons with readings from spiritual and literary sources at the fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road.

The emphasis will be on sunshine.

Coffee will be available following the service.

North Barr Road is accessible from U.S. Highway 101 during the McDonald Creek Bridge closure on Old Olympic Highway, according to a news release.

Rummage, bake sales

SEQUIM — The Faith Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will hold its annual rummage and bake sale Aug. 4-5.

The sale will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 and from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 5 at Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St.

Featured at the sale will be vintage items, tools, furniture, craft items, home decor, linens, Christmas items, clothing, children’s toys, books and baked goods.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the church’s missions.
