NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles Farmers Market to move this Saturday due to Crab Fest . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — On Saturday, the Port Angeles Farmers Market will move to the Vern Burton Community Center parking lot for one day only to allow the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival the use of The Gateway pavilion.

The Vern Burton center parking lot is on the corner of Peabody and Fourth streets in downtown Port Angeles.

The Gateway is at the corner of Lincoln and Front streets.

“The Crab Festival is one of the biggest events of the year, and we are happy to move the market for a day to accommodate it,” market Manager Cynthia Warne said.

For more information, phone Warne at 360-460-0361.

Work party slated

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson Land Trust will host a work party at Chimacum Commons at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Participation is free.

Earlier this year, community volunteers and Chimacum School students helped plant almost 600 native trees and shrubs in a buffer along Chimacum Creek on this piece of farmland.

On Thursday, volunteers will help land trust staff assess plant survival so as to plan for replanting if necessary.

The driveway leading to Chimacum Commons is on Rhody Drive directly across from Cenex in Chimacum.

A Jefferson Land Trust sandwich board sign will point to parking area in the field.
