NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles City Council has special meeting today … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles City Council will have a special meeting today.

The meeting, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Vern Burton Community Center meeting room at 308 E. Fourth St., will be for the council to attend a Housing Task Force Meeting.

The meeting is open to the public. No action will be taken.

PA school board

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board is expected to approve the first reading of its concussion and head injuries policy during its regular meeting Thursday.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., will follow an executive session at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

The board also will consider approving the first reading of three other policies that concern academic honors, risk management and emergency treatment to response to student injury or illness.

The board’s consent agenda includes approval of a collective bargaining agreement with the Port Angeles Principals Association as well as approval of letters of agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 589, the Port Angeles Education Office Professionals and the Public School Employees of Port Angeles.

Meeting off

PORT ANGELES — This month’s regular Port Angeles Utility Advisory Committee meeting has been canceled.

The meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 3 p.m. to

5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Native plants

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Conservation District will hold a workshop on landscaping with native plants from 2:30 p.m to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The free workshop will be held in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The workshop will focus on environmentally-friendly landscaping and will emphasize the use of native trees and shrubs.

The workshop will be offered again in January at the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Sequim.

Five Olympic Medical Home Health members celebrated

PORT ANGELES — Lorraine Wall, Olympic Medical Center’s chief nursing officer, honored five Olympic Medical Home Health team members at a recent board of commissioners meeting.

According to Wall, “These employees do an excellent job of accommodating the needs of our patients.”

The staff members recognized are: Jennifer Loftin, referral intake and scheduling coordinator; Leslie Morfeld, CNA, home health aide; Brian Cimala, RN, visit nurse; Laura Dotlich, RN, case manager for patients on the West End; and Eleanore Hafer, a physical therapist.

According to a press release, the efforts of these employees, along with the entire Home Health staff, contributed to Olympic Medical Home Health’s recognition as a Top Agency of the 2018 HomeCare Elite.
