NEWS BRIEFS: Policy review meeting set today in PT … and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend School District Policy Review Committee will convene for a meeting today at 3:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the district’s office, 1610 Blaine St., Room S-14.

Items on the agenda include policies 2106 program compliance, as well as 2410 and 2410P graduation requirements.

Book signings

FORKS — Lonnie Archibald will hold four book signings for three of his four books this month at various locations.

The first event will be at the Forks Thrifty Mart, 950 S. Forks Ave., from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, Archibald will sign books at the Chinook Pharmacy & Variety, 11 S. Forks Ave., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, the third event will occur from noon to 2 p.m. at the Forks Congregational Church, 280 S. Spartan Ave., after Archibald finishes a short talk at a West End Historical Society meeting.

The final event, Wednesday, Dec. 27, will include a short talk during the Forks Chamber of Commerce meeting at Blakeslees Bar & Grille, 1222 S. Forks Ave., from noon to 2 p.m.

He will sign copies of “Here on the Homefront — World War II in Clallam County,” “Old Trucks and Gear Jammers” and “Keep on Truckin’.”

Archibald’s photographs have appeared in the Peninsula Daily News, Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum.

Committee opening

PORT ANGELES — The city is accepting applications to fill an open position on its Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

Applications can be downloaded at www.cityofpa.us, or received in-person at the city manager’s office in City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The committee is an advisory group that makes recommendations to city council on activities and or facilities to be funded by lodging excise tax revenues.

The open position is for a member who specifically represents a lodging excise tax recipient, such as a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast.

Members serve in a volunteer capacity for one-year terms, and meetings are held on an as-needed basis, according to a news release.
