PORT ANGELES — The first day of the Peninsula Long Rifles’ free mountain-men rendezvous is today.
The rendezvous will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day through Saturday at the group’s range on Slab Camp Road, about three-quarters of a mile off Lost Mountain Road.
The public is invited to see the equipment, games and lifestyles typical of early 1800s mountain men.
Visitors can watch muzzle-loading shooting contests and purchase period merchandise from area traders.

Karaoke Idol set
SEQUIM — The fourth annual Karaoke Idol contest will be presented Tuesday as part of the city’s Music in the Park program.
Those interested in being a contestant can visit www.sequimwa.gov or contact the city clerk’s office at the Civic Center, located at 152 W. Cedar St., for an application and information.
Song selections are available at these websites: www.singsnap.com, www.karafun.com and www.thekaraokechannel.com.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants.
Participants and those who just want to listen are urged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, the family and a picnic to the park for the free evening event.
Entertainment is provided each Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 25.

Dog park meeting
PORT ANGELES — A dog park meeting will take place at the Vern Burton Community Center in the break-out room, 308 E. Fourth St., at 6 p.m. today.
A representative from the Pet Posse will share its activities for finding at-large pets and safely returning them to their owners.
There will be a group discussion about keeping pets safe and future plans for the dog park.

OPHS seeks help
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is seeking volunteers to work from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.
Volunteers will move boxes, couches and heavier things from what will be the cat adoption trailer into the pole barn at the Humane Society’s new property, 1743 Old Olympic Highway.
This is the first step in remodeling trailers to use for cats, administration and veterinary services.
