SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers Club will host a lecture from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.

The lecture will be held at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Cindy Hansen of the Orca Network will speak on “Preventing Extinction — the Story of Southern Resident Orcas.”

The public is invited to learn about the biology, social structure and culture of our local orcas as well as the events that have led to their ongoing decline at this free presentation.

Pruning for winter class set Thursday

PORT ANGELES — Master Gardener Keith Dekker will explain proper pruning during the dormant season at noon Thursday.

The free presentation will be held in the commissioners meeting room at the county courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

His presentation will cover both evergreen and deciduous pruning, but the focus will be on techniques for pruning of deciduous trees, shrubs and cane growers after they have dropped their leaves.

He will explain what types of pruning should and should not be done during the dormant season, how much plant material can be removed, and why and how proper pruning techniques can enhance the natural beauty of trees and shrubs.

Dekker has more than 40 years of horticulture experience in garden centers, nurseries, greenhouses and in commercial landscape maintenance.

Mind-reading show

PORT TOWNSEND — The Psychic Dynasty will perform at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays for the rest of the month.

The show features Joey and Phina Pipia in what is billed as the “world’s only father-daughter mind-reading team.”

The father-daughter team has been performing together since 2012.

Shows will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27, at the Chameleon Theater, 800 W. Park Ave.

The previous owner, Greg Downing, has retired.
