NEWS BRIEFS: OMC board set to meet Wednesday … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners will discuss the hospital’s Combined Fund

Drive Celebration at its 12:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet in Linkletter Hall in the basement of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St.

They also will discuss medical staff recommendations and amending the board bylaws.

Chain gang busy

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang checked Lower Elwha, Dan Kelly, Eden Valley, Little River and Camp Hayden roads for storm debris during the week of Nov. 13-17.

Notable items found along roadways were a dryer, needles, carpet cleaner, three TVs, a couch and 10 5-gallon buckets.

Crew members cleaned six miles and 1,200 pounds of litter on Little River Road.

Crew members pulled approximately 450 Scotch broom plants on Power Plant Road.

Crew members also chipped storm debris on Mount Pleasant, Dietz, Durwatcher, Kreaman, Black Diamond and Glass roads.

From Nov. 20-24, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up a dump trailer purchased with an Ecology Grant from Olympia, and licensed a new chain gang dump trailer.

Notable items found along roadways were 23 needles, two bicycles, two bicycle rims, a propane tank, a shopping cart, a knife, a suitcase, a recliner, a tent, blankets, a barbecue, two lawn chairs, a metal tank for a camping stove, a foam mattress, three couches, a metal bed frame, a mattress and a cooler.

Crew members found illegal dumpsites at Lower Elwha and Lees Creek roads totalling 2,820 pounds of garbage from the dumpsites.

Crew members also cleaned four miles and 740 pounds of litter on Lower Elwha Road.

Crew members also cleaned ditches and removed storm debris on Edgewood Drive, and Joyce-Piedmont, East Beach, South Shore, Old Mill and Little River roads.

The chain gang has so far this year cleaned 493.45 miles of roadway, picked up 76,080 pounds of dumpsite litter, picked up 43,000 pounds of roadside litter, recycled 3,259 pounds of aluminum, trimmed 45,761 feet of weeds along guardrails, removed or sprayed 26,815 Scotch broom plants and brushed 27.75 miles of county rights of way.
