NEWS BRIEFS: Memorial service Sunday for father, son killed in Colorado car crash … and other items

PORT ANGELES — A memorial service for a father and son killed in a head-on collision in Colorado is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.

Robert Streett, 52, and Robby Streett, 16, will be remembered at the service at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The Streetts of Sequim were struck in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 160 in Colorado on July 20. Josslyn, Robert’s wife and Robby’s mother, and a 14-year-old son, Sawyer, survived the wreck.

Friends and neighbors Rich and Becky Johnson will facilitate the service, which will include songs. Friends are encouraged to share stories.

A benefit breakfast for the Streett family also is set Sunday. The Sequim Prairie Grange will host the pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. The cost is $5 per person, with children younger than 10 admitted for $3. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Streett family.

Performance tonight

PORT ANGELES — Violinist James Garlick and viola player Richard Yongjae O’Neill will perform at Peninsula College this evening.

The performance will begin at 7 tonight on the first floor of Maier Hall at the college at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

General admission tickets cost $15; students with ID pay $5. Tickets can be purchased at pencol.edu/cultural-events/concert-series.

Both Garlick, a native of Port Angeles, and O’Neill, a Sequim native, played in the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra while still in high school.

Garlick now plays in the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Bach Ensemble. He has also performed as concertmaster with the Amarillo Symphony, Juilliard Orchestra and Northwest Sinfonietta.

O’Neill has won two Emmys, two Grammy nominations and an Avery Fisher Career Grant. He has created eight solo albums, which sold more than 200,000 copies. He has performed with the London, Los Angeles, Seoul and Euro-Asian philharmonic orchestras; the Moscow, Vienna and Württemburg chamber orchestras; Kremerata Baltica; and Alte Musik Köln.

The performance marks the beginning of the Maier Hall Concert Series. Tickets for the series are $40.

DAR meeting

PORT ANGELES — The Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its Wednesday meeting at 10:30 a.m.

Christie Johnston of Johnston Farms in Sequim Valley will speak during the event at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St.

She will speak about organic farming and provide updates about the farm.

Those who are interested in tracing their family history back to the American Revolution are welcome.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday service speaker will be the Rev. Donna Little.

Her lesson at the church at 2917 E. Myrtle St. is titled “What to Do When … ”

Little, a resident of Sequim, is a licensed and ordained Unity minister.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

Pie, coffee concert

JOYCE — The Peninsula Men’s Gospel Chorus will offer a pie and coffee concert at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A $15 donation is suggested for admission to the event at the Crescent Grange, 50725 state Highway 112.

The public will be able to sample boysenberry, loganberry, apple, cranberry, cherry and lemon meringue pies, after which they can vote for their favorite.

Donations will benefit the chorus and its efforts to provide concerts across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Fall concert tickets

SEQUIM — Tickets for the Peninsula Singers’ Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19, fall concert “The Magical Season: Advent to Christmas” are available to purchase.

Tickets can be bought from singers members or at the concert at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

They also can be purchased at Odyssey Bookstore, 114 W. Front St., Port Angeles; Joyful Noise Music Center, 112 W. Washington St., Sequim; and Bauer Interior Design, 119 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

The public is invited to the singers’ dress rehearsal Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.

Admission to the rehearsal is $5.

During the concerts, Sandy Rawson will play organ and accompanist Linda Dowdell will play piano and harpsichord.

A chamber orchestra also will be featured.

Buffet luncheon

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Christian Women’s Connection will host a buffet luncheon at the Port Angeles CrabHouse restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

For $18, attendees can partake in the luncheon at the CrabHouse, located at 221 N. Lincoln St.

The event will feature the connection’s annual fundraiser for the country fair.

Either Thelma McCoy or Marilyn McNamara will provide entertainment.

The Lost Rangers will also perform live music.

Darien Parsons of Yelm will present a speech, “Light Your Candle.”

Spots are limited for this event, so staff members advise those interested to make reservations.
