NEWS BRIEFS: Memorial Field lighting ribbon-cutting … and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — A ribbon-cutting celebrating a new lighting system at Memorial Field is planned for 5 p.m. today.

The hour-long ceremony, which is free and open to the public, at the field at 550 Washington St., will mark the upgrade to Smart LED lights at the field, which are more efficient and are guaranteed for

25 years, said Libby Masaracchia, administrative clerk II for Jefferson County.

The state Recreation and Conservation Office funded 45 percent of the $361,729 project.

The project grant application was ranked number one in the State of Washington Youth Athletic Facility Program with the Recreation and Conservation Office.

Memorial Field is the only public athletic field in Port Townsend, and the only lighted field in Jefferson County.

Advent retreat scheduled for this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host a retreat from

9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The retreat will be held at the church, 1020 Jefferson St.

Attendees are invited to explore the themes of waiting, anticipation, solitude and their relationship with the divine.

The retreat will be facilitated by Sarah Stockton.

Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be provided.

Suggested donation for the retreat is $10.

Stevenson retires

PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship recently announced the retirement of Kathy Stevenson.

Stevenson has been part of the fellowship’s family ministry since its inception in the late 1980s.

According to a press release, Stevenson has been involved in writing the curricula used by the fellowship as well as by other Unitarian Universalist congregrations.

Stevenson will be replaced by the next family ministry director, Beau Ohlgren.

The congregation will celebrate Stevenson’s retirement from 3 p.m to

5 p.m. Sunday at the fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.

Supper and show

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Evangelical Friends Church will host “Supper and a Show” at

6 p.m. Wednesday.

Friends will serve homemade soup, bread, rolls and homemade cookies at Friends Church, 1291 N. Barr Road.

During dinner they will show the 2014 documentary “Patterns of Evidence.”

This family-friendly film screening is free and open to the public.

Ugly sweater pub crawl fundraiser

PORT ANGELES — The Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles and United Way of Clallam County will

sponsor the third annual Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 21.

Check-in for this fundraising event will be at The Landing mall, 115 Railroad Ave.

The event will finish at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., where the sweater contest will

be held.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the individual and to the couple with the best ugly sweaters.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

A special designated driver price of $7 is available at check-in.

The event includes a poker walk as well with a $5 buy-in for a chance at 50 percent of the poker walk proceeds.
