PORT TOWNSEND — Admiralty Audubon’s April program, “Native Plants and the Birds They Attract,” will be held at the Community Center, 620 Tyler St., from 7 p.m. 8 p.m. Thursday.
The free program will illustrate the relationship between native plants, songbirds, hummingbirds and insects.
Ron Sikes, a former gardener/landscaper for more than 35 years, will show slides and talk about what he found after researching and observing what birds eat.

Film critic lecture
PORT HADLOCK — Film critic Robert Horton will lead a discussion about how movies reflect the history and culture of their times at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.
The lecture is Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Co-sponsored by the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau, the title of Horton’s presentation is “The End of the Trail: How the Western Movie Rode into the Sunset.”
The Western was America’s bedrock mythology — and greatest movie genre — for the first 70 years of film history, Horton said.
But during a tumultuous period in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the “revisionist” Western took up a fiercely critical argument with the past.
Because of the dramatic changes seen in Westerns, the genre forces people to look critically at their own myths, Horton added.

Spring bunco party
PORT ANGELES — Soroptimist Jet Set will host a “Spring Fling” bunco fundraiser for Clallam County Teen Court at the Elk’s Club, 131 E. First St.
The party is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Tickets are $10.
The public is welcome.
There will be prizes and a three-item silent auction.

New trustee
PORT TOWNSEND — Richard Wojt has been elected to the Jefferson County Historical Society Board of Trustees.
Wojt was a teacher in Port Townsend and Chimacum for 28 years.
He served for 12 years as a Jefferson County commissioner.
He also serves on the Port Townsend Library Foundation Board, the Jefferson County Clean Water Board and the Hood Canal Coordinating Council Citizen Advisory Board.
Irrigation carnival
SEQUIM — Wristband tickets are on sale now for the Irrigation Festival’s carnival.
Bands are $20 and are available at Sound Community Bank, KeyBank, Colors of Sequim and the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Each ticket entitles the bearer to one wristband good for a full day of rides during the carnival May 8-11.
Tickets are redeemable at the carnival, where the wristbands will be available.
