The U.S. Postal Service announced Monday that regular mail delivery and retail service will be suspended Wednesday amid a national day of mourning to honor former President George H.W. Bush, who passed away Friday at the age of 94.
The decision will impact delivery of the Sequim Gazette. Readers who receive the Sequim Gazette in the mail will have their paper delivered Thursday or Friday.
The federal government also will be closed Wednesday.
“Out of respect for President Bush, the nation’s 41st commander in chief, and to honor his vast contributions to the United States during his lifetime, and consistent with the presidential proclamation, the Postal Service will observe the national day of mourning,” a Postal Service press release stated.
The announcement said that limited package delivery service will be provided Wednesday to avoid negatively affecting customers or business partners during the remainder of the busy holiday season.
Event postponed
AMANDA PARK — The open house at Amanda Park Timberland Library previously announced by Olympic National Park for Wednesday has been postponed.
According to a press release, the open house is being postponed in observance of a national day of mourning in honor of former President George H.W. Bush.
The open house will be rescheduled at a later date.
Quorum of board at tour is possible
SEQUIM — A quorum of the city Parks, Arbor & Recreation Board might be in attendance at a tour of the city parks today.
The tour, which starts at 10 a.m. and lasts about two hours, will begin at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.
