Septic 101 classes slated March 5 in Sequim
SEQUIM — Homeowners can learn how to maintain residential septic systems for free at a two-hour evening class Wednesday, March 5.
Clallam County Health and Human Services environmental health staff will present the class at Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A panel of local designers, installers and pump professionals will show how and why the system works and how to keep maintain it.

Benefit dinner planned April 15 in Port Townsend
PORT ANGELES — The annual benefit for the Captain Joseph House Foundation, “Forming Foundations for Families,” will take place at C’est Si Bon, 23 Cedar Park Drive, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 5.
The cost for the live auction, raffle and dinner is $85 for general admission and $75 for active or retired military veterans.
Dinner includes a glass of wine and a choice of filet mignon with mushrooms, sole parchment or tureen of roasted organic vegetables.
Proceeds from the event will go toward Phase 2 of the remodel to transition a former bed and breakfast to a retreat for families of fallen soldiers.

Spaying, neutering services offered for felines
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is offering free and low-cost spaying and neutering for cats Sunday, March 9.
Feral and free-roaming cats and kittens will be fixed for free.
Owned cats and kittens will be fixed for $10.
Cats must be brought to the future site of the humane society, 1743 Old Olympic Highway, in the morning and get picked up in the afternoon.
There is no limit to the number of cats brought in.
All cats must be registered for the clinic prior to Saturday, March 8.
Registration is at the current shelter location at 2105 W. U.S. Highway 101.

Washington State University honorees
PULLMAN — North Olympic Peninsula students have been named to Washington State University’s president’s honor roll for the 2013 fall semester.
The president’s honor roll recognizes students who stand above the rest with excellent academic performance.
To be eligible, undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of nine graded hours in a single term at WSU and earn a grade-point average of 3.75 or a 3.5 cumulative GPA based on 15 cumulative hours of graded work.
